Andrew, CarrieBeth, and Megan sat with Matt and me during church tonight! We had an active pew of roly polies but all in all they did good. Our church had the Lord's Supper tonight. Those three little heads were stretched farther than a turtle to see the cross in the front being put up. And then came the "supper". CarrieBeth whispered to Andrew "only for those who have been Babatized...you can not have any". First the deacon's passed the bread. Of course, the three little heads beside me were waiting with wide eyes for me to get my bread out of the plate. To stop conversation, I leaned down and explained during the music that this bread stood for Jesus' ______????? After a VERY busy day, my mind went blank...totally blank..my mind could not come up with Jesus' "body" so I just said "skin". So Scott said what he needed to and it was time to partake...Andrew whispered in a whisper that carried several pews..."That was Jesus' skin" as I was chomping away...They watched my every jaw movement...A few heads turned toward us and I was thinking...oops...I think I caused that...Its already complicated to a child and their mother/aunt could not come up with such a simple word as body! Then it was time for the Grape Juice. By this time they were even more curious...so I leaned down and told them that it was grape juice for Jesus' blood...well...they started fanning their noses and whispering..."oohh...yuck...stinky...blood" ALL THREE OF THEM! When I raised my cup to my mouth all three head were in MY personal space and their eyes followed my cup up and then down. I tried to keep my composure and I did pretty well. I guess the lesson for me in all of this is I need for it to be as new to me as it is to them...they bring alot of humor to my life!!!!
Scott reminded me tonight in his teaching that we need to pray for this Easter to mean so much more to us...I tend to wrapped up in all of our activity going on...what a time to celebrate that Jesus is ALIVE!
